This March, 2024, Radius once again takes the stage for our annual economic forecast, showcasing local and national experts in their fields to share unique perspectives on the market, the industry and the economy.

In 2002 a handful of mavericks came together to form Radius and advance the commercial real estate industry in the South Coast. The idea was simple. We live and work here, so let’s pool our knowledge, expertise and resources to give a leg up to the local guy.

A few years later, we took that commitment a step further with the first Radius Real Estate & Economic Forecast, with the goal to arm our clients with information and insight and ensure you stay ahead of the curve.

Today the Radius Forecast remains the only event of its kind in the region. Yet our proudest achievement? Every time we help our clients secure competitive advantage so you can reach your own milestones.

Dr. Christopher Thornberg has been called many things throughout his career, but his favorite thing to be called is correct. He founded Beacon Economics in 2007 and the firm quickly made a name for itself as the only major forecast on the West Coast to correctly predict the collapse of the sub-prime real estate bubble and the global recession that followed. More correct calls followed, including predicting the rapid V shaped recovery from the pandemic and the subsequent surge in inflation. Under Dr. Thornberg’s leadership, Beacon Economics has become one of the most respected research organizations in California producing economic forecasts, impact analyses, policy studies, and regional economic analysis for private industry, public agencies, and nonprofits.

With a career rooted in academia, Dr. Thornberg holds a Ph.D. in Business Economics from the Anderson School at UCLA, where he later taught in the MBA program and served as a senior economist with the Anderson Forecast. As a thought-leader and dynamic public speaker, Dr. Thornberg speaks in front of tens of thousands of people every year, urging audiences to ask the right economic questions before accepting pervasive social and political narratives.

Over the past 17 years, Gene Deering has completed over 1,150 transactions valued at more than $1.6 billion, working in tandem with fellow Radius partners Bob Tuler and Paul Gamberdella. In fact, in 2022 the team completed 26 sales and 67 leases involving more than 640,000 sq. ft. and valued at more than $295 million, putting them atop the commercial leasing and sales leaderboard on the South Coast. A former college athlete, Gene’s unrivaled energy and leadership skills propelled him to the role of Senior Vice President in 2017, then Principal in 2018. Prior to joining Radius, Gene began his career working for CB Richard Ellis in 2004.

Hundreds of the region’s business and community leaders are expected to convene at the 14th Annual Radius Real Estate & Economic Forecast Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort. The annual breakfast program, which presents expert analysis of the local and national economy with a focus on the commercial real estate sector, will once again welcome back renowned economist Chris Thornberg of Beacon Economics making his sixth appearance at the conference. Thornberg will be joined by Radius’ in-house industry experts Gene Deering and Mike Lopus, who will tag team on the state of the CRE market in the broader South Coast region.
